Ick. So today was not so fun. Went to work at 6am, like I was supposed to, and for some reason felt like I had something stuck in the back of my throat that I couldn't swallow. I tried gargling salt water like my dad said, but that didn't help. It finally got so bad that it was gagging me, making focusing on work nearly impossible. I told the assistant manager who was there, Alisa, that I thought I should go home. (Throwing up on food is bad form.) After Portia, my co-worker, took an early lunch (the next person wasn't coming in until 2pm) I clocked out. My dad came by just before I got off, and he looked at my throat. Turns out I have what's called epiglottitis. It's where the epiglottis, the little flap of tissue that alternately covers your trachea and your esophagus, letting you breathe and eat, is swollen and inflamed, thus causing the choking, gagging sensation. Yeah. Fun, let me tell you. Dad prescribed some antibiotics which hopefully will kick in over the next day. I went home, took a shower and a short nap, then went and ran errands with Mike. I probably should have stayed home, but I just really didn't want to. Came back home around 6ish, went upstairs to take a nap, and didn't wake up until about 10:30. I was seriously sleep deprived as well as being sick. Thank goodness I have tomorrow and Thursday off; I don't think I could work like this. It is extremely uncomfortable. Fluids help, but only as long as I'm actually drinking. And I thought nothing could come close to severe laryngitis. I was wrong.
